The three major types of coffee makers are Nespresso, French press and the most popular espresso machines. The 2 most popular coffee makers which use pods are Senseo, Tessimo & Braun.

Espresso Coffee Machines

Probably the most common type. The espresso coffee machine works by pushing extremely hot water or steam under pressure over coffee beans that are tightly packed in a container. This forced hot water releases the flavour from the coffee to produce a delicious cup of coffee. The water is pushed through the coffee beans at a very high pressure, typically between 15 – 19 bars of pressure with most machines. Espresso machines have a steam wand on the side of the machine. This wand is used to heat milk that will be poured into the coffee. An espresso machine can also make cappuccinos which is espresso topped with the steamed milk which forms a kind of froth head to the drink. Coffee produced from an espresso machine has a very heavy flavour but is also creamy but flavour strength can be adjusted according to taste.
Originally espresso machines only made espresso coffee but todays machines can make the best cappuccino with the additional spout which can froth the milk, or you can just make a simple cup of coffee with the machine.

The word “espresso” is actually an Italian word & many people think that it means “express”. This is down to two reasons, firstly the word Bosch coffee machine reviewsespresso has a similar ring to express & secondly because express means to do something quickly, which is what an espresso machine does. However, espresso means “press out” which refers to the way espresso coffee machines work, by using steam or water pressure to extract the flavour from the coffee beans. Espresso coffee is strong, rich in flavour & is the base for other drinks such as cappuccino. A well made cup of espresso coffee should have a creamy golden colour layer that stays on top of the drink, like a thin head. This should stay there up until the drink has been finished & this creamy layer is also know as ‘crama’

Nespresso Best Coffee Machine

This Nespresso machine is the brand name of Nestlé Nespresso. These brand machines brew espresso but do it by using a ‘pod’ or sealed capsules which contains roasted, blended & ground coffee. These capsules come in a range of flavors & stay fresh for around 9 months. The advantage with using the Nespresso system is that it’s a very quick, easy way to make coffee & there is a great pre set range of coffee flavor to choose from with the manufactures introducing new flavors to the range of capsules. Another good advantage with this machine it’s mess free with no coffee granules spilling & there’s no messy filter holder to clean.

The French Press coffee machines

These have been popular in Europe for decades, also known as cafetieres and are now becoming more prevalent in the US. The machine works by putting coffee beans in the bottom of a glass container. Then boiling water is poured over the coffee beans. After the water has had a chance to be flavoured ( around 3 – 5 minutes ) by the coffee beans, a press is pushed through the water to collect all the coffee grinds at the bottom of the glass container. The length of time the beans are allowed to roast in the water, determines the richness of the flavour of coffee. Coffee produced in a French Press machine should be drunk immediately after it is made because the glass container is not very well suited to keeping the coffee warm for extended periods of time. This type of machine is not as popular as espresso or Nespresso, is a much slower way to make a coffee & is suited to making just one cup at a time.
